Going into this series, I expected almost nothing, which proved to be the correct mindset. The show simply fell short. The plot is incredibly thin—the sort of narrative that belongs in a short piece rather than being stretched into a full series. Instead, the creators padded the story out into eight episodes of approximately twenty four minutes each. Most frustratingly, the story clearly reaches its conclusion by episode six, leaving seven and eight feeling like they were tacked on without any real purpose.
The story is driven by three central characters. One is a music producer facing a stalled career, and the other is a gifted young singer whose extreme shyness and fear of people mean he only performs live online while wearing a mask. When the singer joins the producer's company, the producer is floored to discover this is the same masked artist he has spent years trying to track down—the creator of a song that has haunted him since he first heard it. The singer lives with a roommate who grew up with him in an orphanage; while this roommate looks after him, he clearly harbors feelings that he never expresses out loud. It turns out the producer and singer share a deep history as childhood friends who lost touch completely after the singer was sent to the orphanage. To help the singer come out of his shell, the producer puts in the effort to push him toward a singing competition, slowly drawing him out through patience and care. As feelings develop between the two, the roommate experiences a period of jealousy. Through working and living side by side, the producer begins to uncover the immense pain hidden beneath the singer's talent: the loss of his mom, years of being bullied, and PTSD so severe it has left him terrified of the dark and afraid of intimacy. When they both hit rock bottom amidst professional and emotional collapse, they lean on one another for strength. By working through that old pain together, they find healing, love, and redemption, all anchored by the music that originally brought them together.
This show relies on nearly every cliché available to the BL genre. Between the childhood best friends trope and a betrayal that morphs into romance, it hits every predictable beat, including a love triangle where the roommate is ultimately forced to accept he won't be the one chosen. Nothing about this feels fresh or worth the time. The plot is paper thin and the acting remains flat, making it painfully easy to predict what happens next. Most of the cast seems inexperienced, delivering performances that felt stiff and overly rehearsed, though the two leads did share some chemistry and their kissing scenes were decent enough. What really bugged me was the singer's behavior; he clearly lacks romantic feelings for his roommate, yet he is perfectly fine letting the guy support him for years only to brush him off the moment his childhood friend reappears. It felt pretty selfish. Then, in a sudden shift during the last two episodes, the guys who bullied and assaulted the singer back at the orphanage reappear, and the producer assists the singer in making them pay for their actions. Even though I basically binged the whole thing, I really can't recommend this to anyone. It just wasn't necessary.
Ultimately, this is a skippable experience that offers nothing new, relying instead on cliché after cliché. (2/10)
