Lille Spejl (Danish) [Mirror, Mirror]

The fact that this film was released back in 1978 is, in itself, a big surprise. While the story might not have much substance, the sheer fact that the film was made during that time is a huge deal. It portrays the lives of gay individuals and transvestites with a level of empathy that was rare for its era, especially in the form of a comedy. The central character, Bent, is a factory worker navigating the complexities of his life. We learn about his mother, who has always expressed a desire for a daughter instead of a son, his secretive existence at work, and his more liberated, "let-it-all-hang-out" life during his off-hours. Brent, the aging gay man, takes center stage as the main protagonist. He deeply admires his mother, once a famous artist, who now lies on her deathbed, suffering from cancer. Throughout his life, he has lived in the shadow of his mother's fame, constantly grappling with his own identity and trying to figure out who he really is. To survive, Brent resorts to odd jobs and petty theft. Along the way, he interacts with an eccentric group of friends who bring color to his life. These characters include a woman who runs a bar, an older gay man whose house is always filled with drag queens preparing for performances, and a straight couple who are Brent's close friends—Brent secretly harbors a crush on the husband. While these characters don’t significantly drive the plot forward, they help to give the film a "slice of life" vibe. When Brent's mother…

English Teacher (TV Series)

*English Teacher* functions as a workplace sitcom set in an Austin, Texas high school, focusing on the chaotic and often humorous life of Evan Marquez, a gay high school English teacher. His personal and professional lives are a constant mess, leading to plenty of awkward, funny moments. While the show stays comedic, it also addresses what it means to be an openly gay—or even just a highly liberal—teacher in a more conservative community. The first season consists of 8 episodes, each around 22 minutes, following the typical sitcom format. Evan Marquez, a beloved but often late high school English teacher, is thrown into turmoil when a parent reports him for kissing his now-ex-boyfriend, Malcolm, who used to be a fellow teacher and is now a tech entrepreneur. The first half of the season focuses on Evan's desperate attempts to avoid losing his job over this scandal. Things get more complicated when Harry, a hot new gay teacher, arrives and begins to flirt with Evan, challenging his self-imposed rule of no dating faculty members. The show also introduces several key supporting characters. There's the PE teacher, who is both understanding and helpful to Evan, often offering wisdom when things get tough. The PE teacher has a crush on Gwen, Evan’s best friend and a fellow teacher. Then there's the apathetic college counselor, who doesn’t seem to care much about guidance counseling but is always ready to pack weed for the school’s camping trips. And finally, there's the principal, who is doing her best to hold everything together. The show's premise bears…

We Three Queens: Season 1 & 2 (Canada) (Web Series)

The show revolves around Ian, a daycare worker running an after-school program, his boyfriend Lamar, who is both a nurse and a prostitute, and Delores, a scrappy old widow who opens her home to the couple. Season 1 focuses on the adjustment process of these three very different people as they try to live together and get to know each other more intimately. Ian faces frustrations with irate parents at his daycare job, Lamar has an awkward and unexpected encounter with a client, and Delores gets involved in a steamy private lesson with her choir director. Amidst all this, a pillow talk between Ian and Lamar sparks an existential crisis, which ultimately leads to the three having dinner together. Delores, getting stoned during dinner, lightens the mood, marking a comical yet emotionally charged moment in their strange, evolving dynamic. In Season 2, we learn more about Delores' past—her husband’s death and how her son left after seeing his mother with another man. Meanwhile, Ian continues to struggle with his life choices and reluctance to mature, seemingly content with whatever little he has. Lamar, who’s bisexual and juggles nursing and sex work, faces tensions in his relationship with Ian, largely because of his job. One of Lamar’s regular clients, Linda, plays a key role in the complications they face. Season 2 also explores Delores’ aging process, as she falls in a grocery store and begins to confront the reality of growing old alone. She considers Ian and Lamar her family, but her sister’s visit forces her to confront uncomfortable truths. An…

Tasogare Outfocus (Japanese Anime Series)

"Twilight Out of Focus" is a Japanese anime BL series that introduces viewers to three distinct couples: Hisashi and Mao, Jin and Giichi, and Rei and Shion. While the marketing of the show focuses primarily on Hisashi and Mao, the series dives into all three relationships, each explored over the course of three to four episodes. Set in an all-boys boarding school, the characters are either part of, or connected to, the film club. Each couple has their own dynamic, and the series concludes by focusing on Hisashi and Mao, the first couple introduced. The 12 episodes, each running about 22 minutes, deliver a relatively short but impactful exploration of these relationships. ### Hisashi and Mao Hisashi and Mao begin as roommates. Hisashi, at first, comes off as aloof, keeping to himself and rejecting Mao's attempts to connect. It isn't until Hisashi has a breakdown in their shared room that he confesses he’s gay, and Mao responds with understanding and support. Moved by Mao’s kindness, Hisashi begins to open up. Their friendship blossoms, and soon their bond turns into something deeper. Mao, a member of the film club, introduces Hisashi to Giichi, the president of the film club, who is directing a BL film and wants to cast Hisashi for the other lead role. As the two practice their lines, they find themselves drawn closer to each other. Their relationship grows beautifully as they explore their emotions and the gradual development of their love. ### Jin and Giichi Jin and Giichi, the presidents of the drama and film clubs respectively,…

A handsome homeless man was found at the gate of the community

Today, when I returned to the community after work, I found a handsome man in his thirties. I remember seeing him sitting by the wall at the entrance of the driveway when I was about to go to work. His hair was a little long and messy with a baseball cap, but it was clean. He was about 180cm tall and his clothes and face were clean. His body shape was quite standard. He didn't look like a homeless person, but more like a resident who forgot to bring his keys. In the morning, I was in a hurry to go to work and didn't pay much attention to him. I just glanced at him when I passed by. In the evening, when I returned to the community after work, I found that he was still there. I looked at him twice more when I passed by him. I changed my clothes and went to the convenience store opposite to get dinner. By the way, I brought some cooked food and drinks to this man who seemed to be homeless. When I woke him up, he was polite and refused to accept my love. After I insisted that he take the food, "Are you hungry? Where are you from? Do you live nearby?" I sat down by the wall and lowered my body to chat with him, "I live in that building!" He was stunned by my question at first, then answered, "Then why don't you go home? Is there no one at home?" I asked curiously, "I dare not go home.…

Go home and meet the handsome 188 basketball guy

A few days ago, when I was back home from a business trip, I was surfing the Internet and my phone suddenly vibrated a few times. It turned out to be a friend I had chatted with before. He is our protagonist today, Xiao H, who is now a junior in college. He is a handsome guy from the south, but not as tall as southerners. He is 1.88 meters tall. He was on the basketball team in high school and often played basketball in college. Needless to say, he has 8 beautiful abdominal muscles, bronze skin, slender thighs, and big hands. I have met him once and had dinner together, but there was one thing that we bumped into each other at that time... Unfortunately, we didn't. He went home during the holidays and just returned to Beijing. I don't know how he contacted me again. I   get excited when I think of him...   After chatting for a few sentences, he asked me, "Brother, are you free tonight?"    } Of course I have time if a handsome guy asks me out. Fortunately, his school is not far from my home. I simply tidied up the room and prepared to welcome him. One hour later, Xiao H called me.  # Q7  "Brother, I can't find him. Please come down and pick me up." NND is really simple-minded but strong-limbed. He explained it so clearly, but still couldn't find him.  When we got downstairs, we were talking on the phone, telling each other where we were, but…

Is U=U true? 15 questions and answers that you care about most

1. What is U=U?  U=U is an abbreviation for the following phrase: Undetectable viral load = Unable to transmit the virus This means that if a person living with HIV achieves an undetectable HIV viral load through antiretroviral therapy (ART), they will not transmit HIV even if they do not use condoms or take preventive medication (PrEP). 2. What are the conditions for achieving U=U?  The protection achieved through treatment (ART) depends on the following factors: ART treatment was continued stably for several months.  The viral load remained undetectable for several months - guidelines recommend six months.  Take your medicine on time every day. 3. How can a person not be contagious? Simply put, when the HIV viral load is undetectable, there are too few viruses to cause infection. Although people receiving ART remain HIV positive, HIV transmission no longer poses a risk. Most infections require a certain amount or concentration of virus to occur. For example, the viral load may need to be above 500, 1000 or 1500 copies per milliliter to be infectious. The actual upper limit is unknown, but an undetectable viral load means the virus is too low to pose a risk of infection. HIV itself is a relatively difficult virus to contract, but ART treatment reduces this risk to zero. 4. Is U=U suitable for everyone?  Yes. The PARTNER study included both gay and lesbian and heterosexual couples. In some heterosexual couples, the man is HIV positive, while in others, the woman is HIV positive. About a third of the 900 couples in the PARTNER…

Same-sex ambiguity in youth, sexual attraction from cousin and male classmates

These are the vague memories I had of the men around me during my teenage years. Although I didn’t have true love at that time, the fascination with the same sex had quietly sprouted in my heart and formed the tone of my sexual orientation throughout my life. 01 I remember when I was in the third grade of elementary school, I was a little introverted and didn't like to talk to my family. At that time, something happened in my family and I had to live with my grandma. I had fair skin and bright eyes. Everyone said I looked like a girl, but I was also naughty and delicate. When I looked at the photos of myself at that time when I grew up, I thought I was really pretty. I have a cousin who always bullies me, but he would also lie for me, take me to play with friends, and do a lot of naughty things together. My cousin was handsome when he was a child, and he was considered to be more handsome among his friends. He was 5 years older than me, and he should have been in junior high school at that time. My cousin rarely stays at my grandma's house. He always comes to play with me for a while during the day and goes home at night. One night, probably because my aunt and uncle were out, my cousin and I shared a bed, and my grandmother slept in a bed next to us. When I was young, I didn't have any…

Facing an unforgettable love: The journey of letting go of the past

Thinking back now, I don’t think we ever really were on the same page. The first time I met him, I had this feeling that maybe something was inevitable. In the first semester of freshman year, we weren’t really familiar with each other. Our conversations were pretty shallow, and he was always the one to miss out on our late-night chats. I don’t even know when it started, but suddenly he got really into Dota, spending his days gaming with the guys in the next dorm. He didn’t care about anything else, not even his studies. He once mentioned that he didn’t enjoy studying medicine, and by the end of the first semester, it wasn’t a surprise when he failed a bunch of exams. His parents were called in for a talk. I happened to be the dorm leader back then, and we shared a room. My grades were decent, so when his parents invited me to dinner, they asked me to keep an eye on him, make sure he didn’t go online too much, and even gave me their contact number. This was the moment we started having more interactions. He’d always try to bargain with me to get on the internet, and sadly, despite my attempts, I couldn’t change him after all these years. The only thing I did was help him cheat to avoid failing. Meanwhile, he carried on with his carefree, somewhat extravagant lifestyle. For the next two years, we had this mundane and passive dynamic. By junior year, things subtly shifted. We moved to a…

Fourever You (Thai Series)

This series is quite simple and doesn't offer much in terms of excitement. It's a typical college romance where the lead character is unsure whether his crush feels the same, even though they've already kissed. This kind of plot was very popular when BL series first gained traction, but now, as an audience, we have many more options. Even though the plot is thin, the series does offer plenty of light-hearted, fun moments between friends that keep you engaged for a while. However, with a total of 17 episodes, each ranging from 50 to 65 minutes, watching the entire show requires almost 16 hours. By the end, the investment doesn't feel entirely worthwhile, though it does manage to keep a smile on your face. The central story revolves around Easter and North, two college freshmen who are excited to begin their university lives and make new friends. Easter joins a club led by Hill, a popular medical student with three close friends, the most notable of whom is Johan, who comes from a wealthy family. From the start, it’s clear that Hill has feelings for Easter, and Easter likes him back, but Easter foolishly believes that Hill is interested in his sister or someone else. This happens even after Hill straightforwardly asks Easter if he wants to be his boyfriend. The show then delves into their backstories, showcasing their growing feelings for each other, although Easter sometimes behaves like a clueless child. Their romance is sweet and real, though not overly dramatic. It's a charming yet simple love story, focused…

plan | Is twice-a-year long-acting HIV injection therapy about to be realized?

A study presented at the 2024 HIV Drug Therapeutics Conference in Glasgow suggests that two broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs), teropavimab and zinlirvimab, could be effective partners alongside lenacapavir in long-acting HIV treatments. The results emphasize the significance of screening for antibody sensitivity in HIV, while also proposing that people with partial resistance might still benefit from this combination if the dosing is sufficient. Lenacapavir (Sunlenca), administered as an injection every six months, is approved for people with multidrug-resistant HIV who have undergone extensive treatment. However, there is currently no other durable partner for lenacapavir to form a full six-month regimen, meaning it must be combined with daily oral antiretrovirals. Broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) show potential in fulfilling this role. While most individuals with HIV produce antibodies targeting highly variable parts of the virus (which can’t handle new mutations), a small group of individuals naturally produce bnAbs. These bnAbs target stable regions of the virus, making them more effective in neutralizing the virus across different strains. Research indicates that bnAbs are promising for HIV prevention, treatment (especially in children), and functional cures, though viral resistance can limit their use. Dr. Paul Cook and colleagues from East Carolina University tested a combination of lenacapavir with two bnAbs, teropavimab and zinlirvimab, both developed by Gilead Sciences. Lenacapavir is the first approved HIV capsid inhibitor. Teropavimab (GS-5423), derived from the bnAb 3BNC117, targets the CD4 binding site on the gp120 protein of HIV, which is a critical entry point for the virus into cells. Zinlirvimab (GS-2872), derived from the bnAb 10-1074, binds to the…

New discovery: Scientists unravel the function of mysterious HIV component

Briggs and researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry have discovered the mechanism behind a crucial step in the HIV life cycle. In collaboration with teams from Heidelberg University and Yale University, they revealed that the mysterious "spacer peptide 2" (one of the HIV viral components) plays a key role in transforming immature HIV-1 particles into infectious particles. The research results have been published in the journal Nature. Key processes in HIV maturation HIV needs to undergo a maturation process to become infectious, which involves rearrangements in the structure of the matrix protein (red). In immature virus particles, the matrix protein forms a loose lattice structure (top right), while in mature HIV, the binding of spacer peptide 2 triggers the formation of a new, more stable lattice structure (blue, bottom right). © Illustration: Margot Riggi, MPI of Biochemistry. HIV-1 particle maturation HIV-1 particles are initially released from infected cells in an immature, non-infectious form. The main building block of the virus particle is about 2,000 copies of a long rod-shaped protein called Gag. To be able to infect host cells, HIV must go through a maturation process that involves the cleavage of Gag by HIV-1 protease (a viral enzyme), breaking it down into six smaller proteins, including the capsid protein and the matrix protein. This cleavage process results in a huge rearrangement of the virus's internal structure. Although scientists have been exploring structural changes in the viral capsid that envelops the genome for many years, comparatively little is known about the virosome, the protein shell beneath the lipid membrane…
