The handsome Pua (Guan-Zhi Huang) tries to live a more or less normal life after getting out of prison. He has not fully learned from his mistakes and continues to make money through schemes that are not entirely legal. His daily life is thrown off balance when he learns that his former cellmate, Mi-Ji (Ming-Shuai Shih), is about to be released. During Pua's incarceration, Mi-Ji was his protector.

On the day of his release, Mi-Ji is surprised—and evidently somewhat embarrassed—to find Pua waiting for him. While Pua seems to have attached real meaning to their relationship, Mi-Ji appears to want to forget it and begins avoiding him. However, when Pua finds himself in trouble after an operation goes wrong, Mi-Ji unexpectedly reappears...

A romantic crime drama

With its well-calibrated running time of 1 hour 18 minutes, this crime drama relies on interiority. The characters are taciturn, and the filming is delicate and introspective, lingering over faces, glances, and silences. More is suggested than said. While the first part unfolds at a demanding pace that will not necessarily appeal to everyone, the second builds greater tension: rekindled buried feelings mingle with danger.

Homosexuality, reintegration, and impossible love in Chinese society

The director depicts the difficulty of resuming daily life after prison, the ongoing difficulty of accepting one's homosexuality in China, and the chaotic journey—one might say chaotically romantic journey—of a sensitive boy who is almost a bad boy against his will.
