Head 2 Head (Thai Series)

Honestly, they should’ve just named this show J&J. The two leads are Jerome and Jinn, and the show itself even calls them by that nickname a few times. Maybe there were title issues, but J&J would’ve suited it so much better. Head 2 Head just sounds a little off. Anyway, it begins like a pretty standard enemies to lovers story, but give it a little time and there’s more happening under the surface. It’s 12 episodes, around 45 minutes each, and overall it’s a decent watch.
Jerome and Jinn have lived across from each other since childhood, and they’ve been rivals for just as long. They tease each other, talk each other down, and basically disagree about everything. Even so, they’re in the same friend group, along with Van and Farm. Jerome gets hurt after a car race and begins having visions. He soon realizes they’re always tied to Jinn and the world around him—sometimes comforting, sometimes seriously unsettling. Since he’s injured, both sets of parents decide Jerome should recover at Jinn’s university condo. While he’s busy worrying about Jinn, Jerome starts catching real feelings, and eventually they begin dating. But the visions don’t stop. They show Jinn arguing with his mother, being in an accident and maybe dying, and also the two of them growing apart, though other times they become boyfriends. Jerome gradually shares some of what he’s seen with Jinn, and together they try to change the future by having Jerome stay close, support him, and love him. Alongside that is Van and Farm’s love story. Van is a serial flirt who hooks up all the time, but Farm loves him anyway and is always there. Van eventually says he wants to date Farm, but he can’t seem to quit his wandering ways, and the resulting tension gets so bad that even their friendship takes a hit. They work it out in the end too.
As much as I enjoyed the show, there were some real logic gaps that kept bothering me. Jerome’s visions always feel like they’re holding something over your head without ever properly explaining it. Why does he almost always see Jinn in danger or dying? Is he really able to alter what’s ahead, or is he just branching into different timelines? And why does he hide so much from Jinn? If he’s trying to protect him, wouldn’t honesty work better? If you can roll with it without thinking too hard, the early episodes are honestly the most entertaining, with these two constantly getting under each other’s skin and bickering. Their banter is what pulled me in. Naturally, it eventually shifts into romance, and both characters grow. Jinn begins letting go of old resentment and learns to trust people again after a childhood that made him pretty guarded. Jerome quits treating everything like a game and starts understanding what truly caring about someone looks like. The actors have good chemistry and are very easy to watch together. Van and Farm’s storyline gets much more room in the second half too, and honestly, I was surprised by how much it worked for me. Two people who are both a little lost finding each other through patience and messiness—it felt real, even if their problems were resolved a little too conveniently. But that’s just how these shows are.
It’s not a perfect series, but it is an honest one. It doesn’t promise a fairytale ending or act like everything turns out beautifully. What it does say is that standing by someone and choosing them every day really means something. (7/10)
